All the action from Day 1b of the 2010 $10,500 Aussie Millions Main Event.
Day 1b In The Bag
Written by Tim Duckworth at 1:55pm
As was the case yesterday, another gruelling 13 hours of tournament poker has wrapped up with the final hand being dealt for the night.
243 players coughed up $10,500 to partake in Day 1b action of the Aussie Millions Main Event, and the quality of the field didn’t disappoint with everyone from Erik Seidel to Jeff Lisandro to Annette Obrestad making an appearance.
The fortunate 97 that will be returning on Wednesday are headlined by Chad Wiedenhoeft with 153,200 in chips and is closely trailed by local Jackie Glazier with 130,000.
Team 888poker was well represented today with eight players representing the newly revamped online gaming site.
Team Captain Shane Warne, Dimitri Mascarenhas, Tom Jenkins, Sam Talman and Andy Lee were the unfortunate ones not to make it through the day, but Leo Margets (64,000), Simon Kidson (23,500) and Jeff Fenech (13,700) have all deserved a day’s break before having a crack at the $2 million first prize.
Make sure to join us tomorrow from 12:30pm where another mixture of online qualifiers and Team 888poker players such as Stephen Day, Darren Woods and Patrick De Koster will be hitting the felt to battle it out with the world’s best from the 2010 Aussie Millions!

Talman Says Ta-Ta
Written by Tim Duckworth at 1:38pm
888poker online qualifier Sam Talman pushed his short-stack holding Ks-9h but ran into an even shorter stack’s Qc-Qd.
The board ran out 3d-As-Ad-3s-Ah to see Talman crippled to 1,500 and stuck in the big blind for the following hand.
Talman relinquished his big blind before committing with his Qc-8c into an opponent’s pocket sevens. An eight on the river saw Talman more than triple to 2,300.
Playing the patient waiting game, Talman went a whole orbit quietly folding before being dealt Jc-8h in the big blind and running it into an opponent’s Ac-Qs. Unfortunately Talman would be unable to improve when the board ran out Kh-Qc-4d-9d-Qh to see the online qualifier eliminated just shy of the end of play.

Chop Chop For Kidson
Written by Tim Duckworth at 12:40am
Simon Kidson opened the action to 2,000 before an opponent made it 6,000 to go. After it folded round, Kidson pushed his 30,000-chip stack into the pot and was called by his opponent.
Kidson: Ah-Kc
Opponent: Ac-Kh
Once the board ran out 2d-4h-4s-10s-Kd, Kidson chopped the pot with his opponent while retaining his above 30,000-chip stack.
Fellow tablemate Sam Talman is struggling at the moment with around 18,300 – and this is mainly due to the dominance of recently arrived Jeff Lisandro and his 65,000 strong stack directly to the right of Talman.

Kidson Clipped
Written by Tim Duckworth at 10:30pm
Facing a 5,350 all in, Simon Kidson made the call tabling his Jh-Js to be in a race against his opponent’s Kh-Qh.
Unfortunately for the 888poker online qualifier, the board ran ou 10h-3d-Qc-4s-4h to see Kidson slip to 35,200 in chips.

King Fenech
Written by Tim Duckworth at 9:45pm
Jamie Glazier opened to 1,900 and Jeff Fenech was the only player to make the call.
The action was checked through to the river with the board running out Ah-6c-7c-Qc-8c and a 1,900-chip bet following from Fenech. Glazier made the call and Fenech tabled his pocket Kings to take in the pot and move to just over 22,000 in chips.
As for the other Team 888poker members;
Leo Margets – 45,350
Simon Kidson – 42,200
Sam Talman – 12,900

Play Resumes, Lee Exits
Written by Tim Duckworth at 9:08pm
Colin Rich entered the pot with a raise to 1,500 and Andy Lee made the call from the button to see a As-Js-7s flop fall.
Rich continued with a bet of 2,500 only to have Lee raise the action to 6,000. Rich looked Lee up and down before making some jovial remarks about the drink that they were simultaneously enjoying before he pushed his 12,250 into the pot. Lee made the call for his last 8,875 and the cards were tabled.
Rich: Ah-7h
Lee: Ac-6h
With most hope resting in a chop for Lee, the turn and river would run out the 8h and 6c to see the radio show host unfortunately eliminated from the tournament.

Jenkins Falls As Dinner Calls
Written by Tim Duckworth at 7:32pm
A short-stacked Tom Jenkins pushed his last 1,350 into the pot from the button and the small blind made the call.
Jenkins: Qc-10h
Opponent: As-7d
The board ran out 4h-3h-4d-Kh-2s to see Jenkins hit the rail as the level expired and the dinner bell called by the Tournament Director.
Fortunately there are still a few Team 888poker member’s that are taking a well deserved 75-minute dinner break.
Simon Kidson – 52,150
Leo Margets – 48,700
Sam Talman – 21,700
Andy Lee – 7,925
See you at 8:45pm!

Kidson Continues To Soar
Written by Tim Duckworth at 7:26pm
Following a raise to 800, 888poker online qualifier Simon Kidson bumped it to 2,200 from middle position. Once the action had folded round to the small blind, he made it 6,800 to go to prompt a fold from the original raiser and put the action back on Kidson.
After deliberating for a few minutes, Kidson cut out a re-raise to 12,200 to now put the four-better into the tank. A further few minutes went by until Kidson was met with an open-fold of As-Ks.
Kidson tapped the table and tabled his Kc-Kh while raking in the pot to climb to 59,200 in chips and continue his table dominance.

Late Arrival, Early Leak
Written by Tim Duckworth at 6:55pm
Andy Lee of the ‘Hamish and Andy Show’ has just arrived in the tournament.
With his stack depleted some what after missing six hours of play, he quickly picked up some chips after arriving before losing a chunk to an opponent in a recently caught hand.
Lee called a 2,300-chip raise preflop and after the 4d-9h-2d-2s-9c board was checked to the river, Lee fired out 3,000 in which his opponent called. Lee tabled his Ah-8s for two pair, but it would be his opponent’s Ac-As that would see his better two pair rake in the pot and sink Lee to roughly half his starting stack.

Warne Spun Out
Written by Tim Duckworth at 6:22pm
The Team 888poker Captain Shane Warne has been spun out of the tournament!
Andrew ‘LuckyChewy’ Lichtenberger opened from middle position to 900 and a player on the button made the call before the action was to Shane Warne in the big blind. He slowly squeezed his hole cards out before immediately moving his 4,125 short-stack into the middle once he had fully sweated his hand.
Lichtenberger asked for a count of both Warne and the player on the button before announcing that he was all in and sliding a stack of 5,000 and 1,000-denomination chips into the pot. The player on the button passed and the cards were tabled.
Warne: Qd-Js
Lictenberger: Ad-Kc
“My turn” uttered Warne as he leant over the table at his impeding tournament fate being delivered by the dealer.
Unfortunately for Warne, the board ran out 8h-7h-3h-4c-10h to see the ‘King of Spin’ make a quick exit out of the tournament area courtesy of ‘LuckyChewy’.

Shane Warne Final Tables Event 7 of the Aussie Millions
Written by Heath Chick and Tim Duckworth at 5:18pm
Australian cricketing legend, Shane Warne reached the final table of Event 7: $1,150 No Limit Hold’em with Rebuys event at the 2010 Aussie Millions last Friday.
Representing 888 Poker, Warne entered the final table with 39,200 chips which saw him placed in eigth chip position of the ten players remaining.
At the start of the day Warne was one of 108 players who entered the event and he flew out of the blocks with an early flush against experienced tournament player Bruno Portaro to double up. Shortly afterwards, Warne committed his chips with Qd-Jh on a flop of 10d-7c-9d and was up against two opponents holding a pair and a flush draw, but Warne proceeded to complete his straight when a King fell on the turn, as he ended the rebuy period in good shape.
With a total of 356 rebuys and addons creating a very healthy prize pool, Warne set about accumulating more chips. He flopped the nut flush to send an opponent to the rail before surging to the top of the chip count leaderboard when his pocket Aces were paid off by an opponent holding Ace-King. From there things only got better for the spin king. He bowled over another opponent when holding 9s-7s on a flop of 9c-6d-5c. His opponent showed pocket Kings but Warne found an eight on the river to complete his straight – not the first time in his career that Warne has deceived his opponents with the straight one!
The field thinned out and Warne survived the day to reach the final table, but he won’t have things easy with Australian Poker Hall of Famer Gary Benson, 2009 Aussie Millions champion Stewart Scott and online phenom James Obst, all still in contention.
Returning on Saturday with ambitions to capture an Aussie Millions Championship Ring and first place prize of $129,920, Warne barely had time to find his comfort zone when he ran his pocket Queens into Gary Benson’s pocket Kings on one of the first hands to see him eliminated in 10th place for a $9,280 collect.
Currently Warne is sitting with just over 11,000 in chips and is still searching for a hand so that he can begin to accumulate some much-needed and highly valuable chips.

Tough Decision For Talman
Written by Tim Duckworth at 3:50pm
Sam Talman entered the pot with a raise to 600 in which three opponents called.
The 8s-8c-2s flop was checked round to see the Ah land on the turn and a 1,050-chip bet follow from Mario Doria out of the small blind. Talman came along for the ride, and when the 8d fell on the river Doria checked the action over to the 888poker online qualifier.
After mulling over a decision for nearly sixty seconds, Talman casually tossed in two grey 1,000-denomination chips amounting to a bet of 2,000. Doria however had no intentions of just calling and slid two handfuls of chips into the pot amounting to roughly 30,000.
It would take nearly two minutes for Talman to come to a decision – a fold – but not before asking Doria, “did you have it?”
Doria’s response, “I don’t think I can tell you that!”
Althought Talman lost the pot and slipped to 19,100, he has the comfort of fellow 888poker online qualifier Simon Kidson on his direct left after recently moving. Kidson is looking strong with just over 46,000 in chips.

Mascarenhas Massacred
Written by Tim Duckworth at 3:15pm
Unfortunately for Team 888poker and cricket enthusiasts following from their lounge room, Dimitri Mascarenhas has been eliminated from the Main Event.
Speaking to his executioner Andy Hiscox, Mascarenhas made a preflop raise in which both his opponent on the button and Hiscox in the big blind called. The flop fell down Q-Q-9 and Hiscox led out with a 1,700-chip bet before Mascarenhas made it 4,000. The button passed but Hiscox moved all in for around 15,000 and Mascarenhas made the call for his tournament life.
Mascarenhas’ A-Q was in great shape against Hiscox’s K-Q, but following a safe turn, the river fell a King to see the pot pushed to Hiscox and put Mascarenhas on the rail.
For those of you wondering who Dimitri Mascarenhas is, here is list of some facts and points of interest:
- - Grew up in Perth, Australia.
- - Bowls right-handed medium fast and bats right-handed.
- - Plays for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League.
- - Shane Warne is both his Rajasthan Royals and Team 888poker Captain.
- - He holds the record for most runs for England in an over in a One Day International.

Fenech Fumbling
Written by Tim Duckworth at 1:37pm
The ‘Marrickville Mauler’ Jeff Fenech is having a tough time at his starting table so far to see him clipped of nearly half his 20,000-chip starting stack.
Following a raise to 250 from Van Marcus and a call from Antonio Casale, Fenech made the call from the button to see a flop of 2c-10s-4d fall and a bet of 600 follow from Marcus. Casale min-raised to 1,200 and both Fenech and Marcus made the call to see the 5d land on the turn. Marcus checked, Casale fired out 3,000 and Fenech instantly called as Marcus passed. Both players checked the Ks on the river and Casale’s Jc-Js bested Fenech’s Qc-10d.
On the next hand Fenech took control of the hand on the flop, turn and river when the dealer spread the 3h-6d-5c-7d-10s board, but Jay Rosenkrantz looked him up the whole way holding 7s-5s to see the Team 888poker member slip to 11,800.

Cards In The Air For Day 1b!
Written by Tim Duckworth at 12:45pm
The infamous words of ‘Shuffle Up and Deal’ have been spoken by Tournament Director Mike Tarr to put the cards in the air for Day 1b action!
888poker is well represented today with eight players taking to the felt to battle it out for the lion’s share of the estimated $8 million prizepool.
Online qualifiers Simon Kidson and Sam Talman are located in the main tournament area while 888PL player Tom Jenkins is also seated in the field. English cricketer Dimitri Mascarenhas is seated two to the left of Ewan Morgan.
Team 888poker member and World Champion Boxer Jeff Fenech has drawn one of the toughest tables today with Jay ‘pr1nnyraid’ Rosenkrantz, Van ‘sirens’ Marcus and Antonio Casale making life difficult for him over in the upper sections of the tournament area.
Team 888Poker Captain Shane Warne and WSOP Main Event 2009 Last Woman Standing Leo Margets have both been moved upstairs to Studio 3 where a few of the Main Event tables are being filmed.
Finally Andy Lee – of Hamish and Andy fame – is also taking to the felt today, but will be arriving a little late due to work commitments.
